The full form of PTE is the Pearson Test of English and the PTE-Academic is a Test of English that is conducted by students and candidates who wish to go abroad to study or emigrate to a major English speaking country. Candidates eligible to appear in the PTE exam will have to take the test to prove their English language competency.

The PTE curriculum of computer-based testing lasting two hours focuses on day-to-day English rather than high-level English language and tests a student's ability to effectively understand spoken language on a daily basis. There are many factors that differentiate PTE Academic from other English proficiency tests. The first and foremost aspect of this exam is the scoring pattern and result. As these tests are fully organised on the computer, PTE results and scores are declared very rapidly, usually in two business days.
